Job Overview
Location: Milton, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey brick house with attached garage
Problem: Wildlife activity reported in the attic during early morning hours, consistent with squirrel behaviour
Service: Squirrel removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: Two visits
Summary
Pest Control Milton was contacted after the homeowner reported repeated early morning noises coming from the attic. Our team completed a full exterior roof inspection, identified multiple soffit-level entry points, and carried out a humane squirrel removal using one-way doors followed by permanent exclusion. A final visit confirmed the attic was clear and all openings were securely sealed.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey brick home with multiple rooflines, soffit intersections, and vents. These features can create vulnerable access points for squirrels, particularly where roof slopes meet soffit panels.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported hearing scratching and movement in the attic during early morning hours. The timing and location of the activity suggested an active squirrel presence accessing the attic from the roofline.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full exterior roof inspection. Two active entry points were identified at soffit intersections along the roofline. The openings showed conditions consistent with squirrel entry and repeated use.
Photos from the inspection show roof-level gaps at soffit intersections and exposed areas along the shingle-to-soffit transition where wildlife could gain access.

Cause Analysis
Squirrels commonly exploit weak points along rooflines, particularly at soffit intersections and vent areas. Repeated climbing and chewing can widen small gaps over time. The home’s roof geometry and intersecting soffits created suitable access points for attic entry.
Treatment / Removal
We proceeded with humane, non-lethal squirrel removal. One-way doors were installed over the identified access points to allow squirrels to exit the attic while preventing re-entry. This approach ensured animals could leave safely without being trapped inside.
Technician Andrew completed the removal setup during the initial visit.

Exclusion & Repairs
Once removal was underway, permanent exclusion work was completed, including:
- Installation of galvanized steel mesh to seal roofline openings
- Sealing approximately four feet of soffit using exterior-grade sealant
- Reinforcement of vulnerable soffit intersections to prevent future access
Photos show galvanized steel mesh secured along the roofline and sealed soffit areas following repairs.

Outcome & Confirmation
On the second visit, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. The one-way doors were removed, all exclusion work was inspected, and sealed areas were confirmed intact. No additional signs of squirrel activity were observed at the time of final inspection.

Technician Notes
- Full exterior roof inspection completed on first visit
- Two active squirrel entry points identified at soffit intersections
- One-way doors installed and later removed after activity ceased
- Exclusion materials remained secure at final inspection
- No further wildlife issues reported after completion
