Bird Entry Prevention and Vent Screening – Milton

Job Overview

Location: Milton, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey brick house with attached garage
Problem: Bird activity at roofline and wall vent openings
Service: Bird removal and full exterior exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

Our team responded to reports of bird activity entering roof and wall vent openings on a detached residential property in Milton. A full exterior inspection confirmed multiple accessible entry points along soffit intersections and wall vents. Humane one-way bird doors were installed to allow existing birds to exit, followed by permanent vent screening and exclusion. A final visit confirmed no further activity and all exclusion measures intact.

Background / Property Context

The home is a two-storey brick structure with vinyl siding, multiple wall vents, and several roofline transitions. These features can create common access points for birds when vent openings or soffit intersections are not adequately screened.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing bird activity, including noise and movement, originating from wall vents and areas near the roofline. The concern was potential nesting inside wall cavities and continued access through multiple exterior openings.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, Andrew conducted a full exterior inspection of the roofline, soffits, siding, and wall vents. Active and potential entry points were identified at two soffit intersections and several wall vent openings. These areas showed conditions consistent with bird access, including open or lightly protected vent covers.

Photos from the inspection and installation stages show wall vents and soffit areas fitted with galvanized steel screening, as well as one-way bird doors secured over identified entry points.

Cause Analysis

Birds commonly target elevated openings such as soffit intersections and wall vents for nesting and shelter. On this property, multiple vent openings and roofline transitions provided accessible entry points. Once one area is accessed, birds may test nearby openings, leading to activity at several locations.

Treatment / Removal

Humane, non-lethal bird removal methods were used. Seven one-way bird doors were installed over active and suspected entry points, allowing birds to exit the structure while preventing re-entry. This approach ensured existing birds could leave safely without becoming trapped.

Exclusion & Repairs

Following confirmation that bird activity had ceased, permanent exclusion work was completed. This included:

  • Installation of seven large galvanized steel wall vent covers
  • Installation of one small galvanized steel wall vent cover
  • Removal of all one-way doors after vacancy was confirmed
  • Sealing and securing of former entry points
  • Inspection of all treated areas to ensure long-term protection

Photos show vent covers and soffit screening securely fastened and flush with the exterior surfaces.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further bird activity. All one-way doors were removed, exclusion materials were inspected, and no new entry points were observed. The structure remained secure, and no additional wildlife issues were reported following completion of the work.

Technician Notes

All work was completed over two visits by Andrew. The removal and exclusion were carried out using humane methods designed to prevent re-entry while maintaining the integrity of the home’s exterior. Final inspection confirmed successful resolution of the issue.
