Raccoon Entry and Roofline Exclusion – Milton

Job Overview

Location: Milton, Ontario
Structure: Single-story detached house
Problem: Wildlife activity reported in the attic
Service: Raccoon removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: 3

Summary

We completed a three-visit wildlife removal service at a single-story detached home in Milton after attic noise was reported during early morning hours. The issue involved initial squirrel entry followed by raccoon intrusion through the same roofline opening. Humane one-way door removal and permanent exclusion were completed, with final confirmation of no further activity.

Background / Property Context

The home is a single-story detached structure with asphalt shingles, aluminum soffits, brick exterior walls, and multiple roofline intersections. These junction points create common wildlife entry risks when gaps form between soffit panels, fascia, and masonry.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported repeated wildlife noise in the attic, primarily in the morning. Activity suggested climbing and movement above ceiling areas, prompting concern about attic access and potential damage.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior roof inspection, our technician identified a clear entry point at a soffit intersection along the roof edge. The opening showed displacement consistent with squirrel access.
On the second visit, after new activity was reported, inspection confirmed that a larger animal had removed the previously installed squirrel one-way door. The same opening had been widened, consistent with raccoon entry.
No additional entry points were observed during follow-up inspections.

Cause Analysis

Roofline intersections and soffit joints are common entry locations for climbing wildlife such as squirrels and raccoons. Once an opening is established, it can attract larger animals seeking shelter. Reuse of an existing entry point is typical when exclusion is incomplete or when a stronger animal displaces earlier materials.

Treatment / Removal

On the first visit, a humane one-way door was installed over the identified soffit opening to allow squirrels to exit without re-entry.
After raccoon activity was confirmed on the second visit, a raccoon-rated one-way door was installed at the same location. An attic inspection was conducted, and any immobile young found were safely removed as part of humane wildlife handling procedures.
All work was carried out by our team in accordance with Ontario wildlife regulations. Technician Bailey completed the inspections and installations.

Exclusion & Repairs

Following confirmation of no further activity, all one-way doors were removed during the final visit. The entry point was sealed using galvanized wildlife exclusion mesh secured along soffit edges, roof decking, and masonry transitions.
Additional vulnerable gaps along the roofline and wall intersections were reinforced with mesh to prevent future access. Materials were fastened flush to existing structures to maintain drainage and roof function.

Outcome & Confirmation

After exclusion was completed, the homeowner reported no further wildlife noise or activity. A final inspection confirmed the attic remained inactive, all exclusion materials were secure, and no new entry points were present.

Technician Notes

  • Visit 1: Exterior roof inspection completed. Primary soffit intersection entry point identified. Squirrel one-way door installed.
