Job Overview
Location: Milton, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-story brick house with attached garage
Problem: Suspected squirrel activity in the attic during early morning hours
Service: Squirrel removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: 2
Summary
Our team at Pest Control Milton responded to reports of early morning attic noise consistent with squirrel activity. A full exterior roof inspection identified a compromised roof vent being used as the primary entry point. Humane one-way removal and permanent exclusion were completed over two visits, with no further activity reported.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached, two-story brick home with multiple rooflines and standard attic ventilation points. Elevated roof vents and intersections along the roof slope provided potential wildlife access areas requiring close inspection.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported repeated scratching and movement sounds in the attic during early morning hours, raising concerns about squirrels entering the roof space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, a full exterior roof inspection was completed. The primary entry point was identified as a roof vent that had been heavily chewed through, consistent with squirrel activity. Surrounding shingles and flashing showed signs of disturbance near the vent opening.
Photos from the inspection show:
- A damaged roof vent with visible chewing and deformation
- Roofline angles and vent locations along the upper slope
- Close-up views of vent flashing and surrounding shingles

Cause Analysis
Roof vents are common access points for squirrels due to their elevated location and thinner materials. Over time, exposure and repeated animal activity can weaken vent covers, allowing squirrels to chew through and access attic spaces. Early morning activity aligns with typical squirrel movement patterns.
Treatment / Removal
A humane squirrel one-way door was installed directly over the damaged roof vent. This allowed the animal to exit the attic space while preventing re-entry. No trapping or lethal methods were used.

Exclusion & Repairs
Following confirmation that no further activity was present, the one-way door was removed during the second visit. The roof vent was sealed and reinforced, and surrounding exclusion work was inspected to ensure all vulnerable areas were secure.
Outcome & Confirmation
After the removal and exclusion process was completed, the homeowner reported no further attic activity. A final inspection confirmed the exclusion remained intact, and no additional wildlife entry points were observed.

Technician Notes
- Visit 1: Full exterior roof inspection completed. Chewed roof vent identified as main squirrel entry point. One-way door installed over vent.
- Visit 2: No further activity reported. One-way door removed. Vent sealed and exclusion inspected. No ongoing wildlife issues observed.
