Job Overview
Location: Milton, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with attached garage
Problem: Mouse activity reported inside the home, primarily at night
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 3
Summary
Our team at Pest Control Milton responded to reports of nighttime activity inside a detached home. Inspection confirmed mouse activity within the structure. A multi-visit approach was used, combining interior rodent treatment with exterior exclusion to address both the active issue and contributing entry points.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached house with exterior siding, foundation walls, multiple wall vents, and landscaped areas along the foundation. These features can present common access points for rodents if gaps or vent openings are not adequately protected.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported hearing activity inside the house during nighttime hours and was concerned about mice gaining access to interior spaces.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, signs consistent with mouse activity were identified inside the home. Exterior inspection identified several potential rodent entry points, including open sections along the foundation and unprotected wall vents. These areas provided direct access routes from the exterior into wall cavities and interior spaces.

Cause Analysis
Mouse activity was likely the result of small gaps along the foundation and unsecured wall vents, which are common entry points on residential structures. Seasonal rodent pressure and ground-level access near landscaped areas can increase the likelihood of mice entering homes through these vulnerabilities.
Treatment / Removal
On the first visit, our licensed exterminator performed an interior mouse treatment in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed in areas of confirmed activity to control the interior population.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following customer approval, exclusion work was completed on the second visit. This included:
- Installation of galvanized steel vent cages over four exterior wall vents
- Sealing approximately three feet of open foundation using mortar reinforced with galvanized steel mesh
- Placement of an additional exterior bait station to manage rodent pressure around the structure
Photos show foundation gaps before sealing, mesh and mortar repairs in progress and completed, and wall vents before and after installation of protective steel cages.

Outcome & Confirmation
By the third visit, the homeowner reported no further mouse activity in the attic or living areas. The completed exclusion work was inspected and found to be effective in preventing re-entry. Exterior bait stations remained in place as a preventative measure to address ongoing rodent activity outside the home. No additional rodent issues were observed at the time of final confirmation.
Technician Notes
Technician Dylan completed all inspection, treatment, and exclusion work over three visits. Interior treatment and exterior sealing were carried out methodically, with attention to identified entry points along the foundation and wall vents. Final inspection confirmed successful control and exclusion.
